Castro Street Sidewalk Project Update The Castro Street - TopicsExpress

Castro Street Sidewalk Project Update The Castro Street Sidewalk Widening and Streetscape project has made tremendous progress and is ahead of schedule. As we promised the community, the project team has completed the sidewalk widening phase and is reopening the sidewalks in time for Frameline and Pride. After Pride, the remaining work will occur, including replacing the interior sidewalks adjacent to buildings (this will occur in phases and will be much less disruptive than the sidewalk widening phase); moving the utility and Muni poles to the curb; planting the significant number of new street trees; resurfacing the 18th Street and Market Street intersections, as well as 18th Street between Hartford and Collingwood; painting the rainbow crosswalks at 18th and Castro; and refurbishing Jane Warner Plaza. The work will be finished by end of September, in time for the Castro Street Fair. You can follow the project and sign up for updates at castrostreet.org. I want to thank the project team – including Department of Public Works staff and the contractor (Ghilotti Brothers) – for doing a great job delivering the project. The project team has been responsive, efficient, and effective. I also want to thank the Castro Street merchants and residents, who have put up with major disruption in their lives and businesses, all for the betterment of our neighborhood. I am deeply appreciative of their patience and support. Join me this Saturday for the Castro Street sidewalk sale. Let’s support our Castro Street merchants.
