Cat in a corner, on the (l)edge of despair…. This late - TopicsExpress

Cat in a corner, on the (l)edge of despair…. This late afternoon (Sep 28, 2014), we were alerted to a cat seen perched on the 11th floor ledge of a residential block in Toa Payoh North. The cat was suspected to be distressed, according to our informer. Our rescue officer was quickly despatched to the scene, and found the local white/black bi-coloured feline, nestled on that ledge reportedly for some time already. The cat indeed appeared distressed, and care had to be taken not to alarm it into possibly leaping off the ledge. Rescuing the cat from its precarious perch, thus, entailed our rescuer’s strategy of employing a catchpole, strategically positioning the noose beneath the cat’s front limbs, then pulling it back up over its head, then tightening it, in a well-timed manoeuvre. The cat was then swiftly hauled from the ledge inwards, and then into a carrier. The cat has been identified by our informer to be his fellow resident’s pet cat (which has somehow escaped from its home just one floor below). It was found to be alright and unharmed, and handed back safely to its owner. The owner was also counselled about the importance of cat-proofing and meshing/grilling the home, such that its unintended escape could be prevented subsequently. We’ll use this opportunity to remind pet owners again to ensure the home is adequately and properly pet-proofed to avoid the loss of one’s pet(s). Possible grievous injury/harm could also befall the escaping pet. We thank our informer, William, for alerting us to the cat’s distressed state. Members of the public can, likewise, help us to help any injured, sick and/or distressed animal, by calling our 24-hour emergency hotline at 62875355 extension 9, any day, any time. Clear emergency cases would be given top priority.
