Catching everyone up: Came home Friday afternoon and soaked up - TopicsExpress

Catching everyone up: Came home Friday afternoon and soaked up being with family and just let them take care of us. Saturday, spent as much time with family as humanly possible, aware that it was Marys last day in Florida and we wont be seeing her again until Kentucky schools are out in June. Tried going out for breakfast and lunch and we were able to manage it, but Don was awfully wobbly and it really tired him. After a five-day stint in the hospital, though, he had really wanted to go out and I had our sons and grandsons there to assist if needed. Based on yesterdays results, though, we are not going to try church today. Just trying to greet all our friends there will be a little too much for him today, I think. It took me several hours, but I finally have his med schedule figured out. He has two meds that should not be taken closer to each other than two hours and one of them has to be taken twice a day. A third med cannot be taken closer to any other med than four hours before or one hour after and he has to take that twice a day, evenly spaced apart. He has three other meds and two other supplements he must coordinate with all that and most of them must be taken with food. He doesnt like to get up before 7:30-8:00 most days (except to go fishing, garage sales, etc. with sons) and goes back to bed on most nights twelve or thirteen hours later. So I have to get everything packed into 12-13 hours. He went back to bed this morning after I got him up to eat some buttered toast and take his first set of meds. This is going to be challenging. He doesnt want to take responsibility for his own meds because he cannot fathom what all the accompanying drug information is about and really could not care less. In this case, understanding that is crucial because of all the conflicts in the drug interactions and timing requirements. Thanks be to God I had some good background in nursing, because the patient education on meds upon discharge was woefully inadequate. They should have had exact hours of administration already figured out and in print on on the labels and on a chart for a multi-drug regimen that includes multiple interactions. But they didnt. Now. I have spewed. I feel better.
