Catherine Thornton on the Leader Board with a win in the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix League. This weekend the Gain Alltech League moved to Eglinton Equestrian Club as part of their Championship show which is a pinnacle on the Ulster Region calendar. The International Course Designer Peter Gillespie built a strong 1.40m track for the 25 athletes challenging for the prize fund of €5,000 and of these 9 went through to the jump off with the reigning Spring Tour Champion of 2014, Daniel Coyle in the enviable position of having 2 to content with. Last week’s winner Peter Smyth was first up, looking for a repeat of his success at Kernan’s with Diamonds Courage however he incurred 4 faults at fence 5 in a time of 37.76 leaving him in 4th place. UK based Georgie Crumley completed the course leaving all the poles standing but her time of 40.64 was short of the winning time. John McLaughlin’s Javas Wild Child put in a great clear in a time of 40.62 and was rewarded with second place however victory went to Catherine Thornton on the 9 year old stallion, Derryinver Luxury Cruise owned by David Campbell coming home in 40.16 and putting her on the Leader Board for the first time. There was a great attendance over the weekend, with spectators enjoying seeing a first for Eglinton – a win by the women in both the Autumn Grand Prix and The Masters which was won by Kelda Morgan and appreciating the high standard of course designing which added to the spectacle. The League moves to Cavan Equestrian Centre next weekend with Sophie Dalm still heading the Leader Board on 18 points.
