Catherine Vaz Moreno November 28, 2014 Reflection II As for this month, I am so glad to meet the farmers in different areas of the Philippines/Mindanao through the DTI-XI. Their meeting for 2 consecutive days, help sustain our sales from that day and my personal perspective as a barista. It makes me realize that through our position or work, we will be able to introduce or promote their coffee/products to anyone locally and globally. As we shown them the different types of preparation of the coffee, I saw hope and eagerness into their faces. Hope of the family to sustain their livelihood though their crops, and eagerness to love and to take care their treasure such as their land, crops and other farming productivity that their children will inherit it someday. This will tell them that their hard work will be paid off through the success of their inheritors. As they watch the preparation, most of them seen it for the first time. They can’t help themselves but to be amazed and be happy with the outcome of their labor. They themselves cannot believe that the crops they have is gold of cup for others. After we have shown and served the fruit of their labor, my heart is filled with gladness. In a simple way of preparing their coffee, I saw little children enjoying their drinks. Their hearts and faces are full of joy that nothing can snatch it away from them. I saw faces of inspiration. I am more focusing my reflection in to “one of the star” in our advocacy, The Farmers. Truly indeed, that without the farmers we are not here in Coffee for Peace. Our work as a barista may never exist; we may not experience and taste the beauty of coffee in different ways. But because of the commitment and dedication of our leaders (Kuya Dann Pantoja, CEO-PBCI & Ate Joji Pantoja CEO-CFP) to share their knowledge and love towards our brothers and sisters in the mountain, we are now enjoying and studying the different kinds of special preparation of the gold crops. The coffee, that is now very in-demand in different places and by advancing our advocacy. I am truly grateful by their convictions and self-dedication to help and serve their fellowmen. For the couple of days as I witness their delivery of coffee, I saw the excitement on their faces every time they visit here. Excited to see the outcome of their crops, its process, excited to hear and learn new things and of course excited to taste their coffee. I admire and salute our farmers who work hard just to serve us their best products that we are now enjoying in our table.
