Catholics couldnt vote in Northern Ireland until 1967. My Dad was fired from a good job as a Master Carpenter in the Howland & Wolf Shipyard, Belfast,..after a year when they found out he was a Catholic ...but then he emigrated to Canada Joined the RCAF and Supervised the construction of Mosquito Fighter Bombers for WW2 (a high-speed, high-altitude photo-reconnaissance & Bomber & Night Fighter). My dad, having seen the Troubles where Christians were killing Christians, was, as a result, not a devout Catholic and was not a church goer. When I brought back his ashes back to Belfast to be buried in 1999 I was ignored and effectively refused service at a downtown pub cause I had bought and was wearing a wristband of a Catholic Football Club which had been my dads favorite, The Celtic (The Protestant Club are the Rangers)... I just got up and went else where with my girlfriend...My dad and I used to sit together and listen to this album... Up the Long Ladder... https://youtube/watch?v=6fDh7Ck1aF4
