Cats are not dogs. That is blindingly obvious to anyone who has been around both species. I agree with most of this study, but do think that cats are capable of genuine affection towards humans. And the one aspect of this that is really scary is the part about the parasite Toxoplasma gondii that can be transmitted through contact with litter boxes. There have long been warnings about how pregnant women should avoid cat litter boxes to avoid picking up the parasite. But, it sounds as though all of us might be well-advised to take that precaution. A parasite that can alter behavior in the animals it uses as a host is the stuff of science fiction. Only in this case, it is very real.
