Caveat: this is my opinion only although it be political in nature. Just my view and not intended in any way to instigate one of those heated debates in which people start attacking each other. Food for thought might be another way to say it. Start attacking me or others and your comments will be put aside. Want to add something which encourages thinking, on the other side of what I think - with due respect - go for it - I was disappointed in Obamas state of the address. Not so much in what he had to say, but in the fact, in my opinion, that this is what this nation reduced him to be able to say. Disappointed, because I will always believe he came to us with an entirely different agenda. An agenda with a scope and power which could have changed this country in ways we may not even have been able to imagine. Watching his gray head, I wept. It disgusts me that racism (call it the race card, if you will, that Im raising here) acted as a wall against which this highly intelligent, big picture, concerned and dedicated President had to bash his own ideas against, his hopes for this country, his desire to restore a thriving middle class, his desire for a health care system which would take this country out of the stone ages and allow us to come alongside every other country in the world which provides preventative care for their populations - makes me feel ashamed. Very ashamed. I sincerely believe this President was deprived of the recognition of greatness by a vituperative other party who could not allow President Obama to experience one iota of success. And, in my heart of hearts, I believe the entirety of the barricade pressed against him; was solely because of the color of his skin. And, yes, of course, I believe hes had his failures. His down side. His own blindness in certain areas. Id expect nothing less of any human being whether they were President of this country or not. But, Ive never stopped believing in his core - something everyone of us, to some extent, when the chips are down, hope against hope those who see our talent, commitment and artistry, will also continue to believe in - our core. President Obama now approaches, in time, a period when he can only hope to allow the entry of the person who will take his place. For me, I hope its Hilary. Shell, of course, have to deal with bias based on being a woman, the fact that shes so very intelligent, that she will have little tolerance for the shenanigans of the likes of the Tea Party. And, an additional part of my sadness, stems from the fact that hatred based on race and aimed at President Obama, lives a long and effective life, still, in this country. I will always take great satisfaction that not only was I able to vote, twice, for President Obama - but in the bigger picture, that his candidacy and subsequent election presented a country not with just the option of an African American to stand at the helm; but so much more importantly that this African American came to us with dignity, concern, vast intelligence, commitment, hope and leadership qualities. All this, taken in the biggest picture, had little to do with the color of skin and so much more with a person highly qualified to lead - taking those who had eyes to see and ears to hear beyond the cesspools of racism.
