Cecafa Challenge Cup Off The Council for East and Central African Football Associations- Cecafa has canceled the 2014 Senior Challenge Cup. Nicholas Musonye, the Cecafa secretary general has said that the Cecafa Extra Ordinary General Assembly held on Sunday in Nairobi decided to cancel the tournament and focus on 2015. The meeting was chaired by Cecafa President, Leodegar Tenga and attended by 11 chairmen. The regional tournament which brings together 12 nations in the region was scheduled to take place from November 24 to December 6 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. But the Ethiopian FA declined to host the event. The Assembly also decided to look into a new format and structure for its competitions in order to cut costs and make its competitions more vibrant and appealing. During the meeting, Tenga documented Cecafa’s achievements in the past 12 months by highlighting the high profile competitions hosted in the region since the beginning of the year. They included the inaugural Cecafa Nile Basin Cup in Sudan in May and the Cecafa-Kagame Club cup in Rwanda in August where a record 14 teams attended. Besides supporting CAF and its President Isa Hayatou on the decisions made regarding the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations which was moved to Equatorial Guinea after Morocco withdrew, the members also unanimously endorsed Tenga as sole candidate from the region to retain his position in the CAF executive Committee during the elections in Cairo next year. The Chairmen who attended the meeting included: Jamal Malinzi (Tanzania), Sam Nyamweya (Kenya), Moses Magogo (Uganda), Vincent Nzamwita (Rwanda), Goc Chabur (South sudan), Reverien Ndikuriyo (Burundi), Abdiqaani Saed (Somalia), Tesfaye Gebreyesus (Eritrea), Juneidi Basha (Ethiopia) Ahmed Eltrifi vice chairman (Sudan) and Ravia Idarius (Zanzibar).
