Cecily Strong named entertainer for White House Correspondents Association Dinner Announcement by President Christi Parsons, of Trib/LAT DC bureau: Dear press corps, I’m thrilled to announce that comedian Cecily Strong will serve as entertainer for our 2015 spring dinner. Yes, this is a very early announcement! Take it as a sign of just how excited we are to sign Cecily, a favorite of ours from the Saturday Night Live cast. Her political humor is sly and edgy, and it comes with a Chicago accent. Cecily grew up in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park and got her start in comedy at Chicago’s Second City. Shes a product of the same strong Chicago tradition of improv that gave us Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert and Tina Fey, and shes had a memorable impact on SNL with her Girl You Wish You Hadnt Started a Conversation With character and her stint as Weekend update newsreader. Journalists are always fair game at the WHCA dinner, but Cecily comes with a special working knowledge of the crowd. Her dad, Bill Strong, is a legendary former Associated Press bureau chief at the Illinois Statehouse. In the 82-year history of our dinner, she’ll be the fourth woman to serve in this role. I look forward to seeing her at our head table, where I plan to seat her next to some other well-known Chicagoans. Christi Parsons WHCA president Chicago Tribune/LA Times White House Correspondent P.S. The dinner will be held on April 25, 2015. Information about ticket purchase will come after the new year.
