Cedar Lodge Nurseries has chosen the recipient of its annual Christmas tree fundraiser. Most votes on the companys Facebook competition said the money raised should go towards Taranaki 3-year-old Byron Andrews cause. His mother Lisa Wong said Byron was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder that, among other things, causes developmental delays and learning difficulties. To further complicate matters he suffered infantile seizures early on which left him with vision impairment and problems processing. It will be used for therapy equipment and ongoing costs of other therapists. She was grateful to all the people who voted. We really appreciate getting this funding because we wouldnt be able to get the equipment that we need. Cedar Lodge Nurseries will donate a dollar from every Santas Choice Christmas tree sold. Its good to be able to help people out again. Its nice when it goes to a family, co-owner Pip McVicar said. This year had almost 250 votes, she said. Most were in favour of Byron. These guys were pro-active in getting votes, not just expecting people to read one post. Last year Stratfords Kobe Uhlenberg, who has severe Treacher Collins Syndrome, received $3056 towards treatment and development from the fundraiser. Miss Wong said that treatment for Byron involves volunteers. I always need help, she said. She needs more volunteers to help with Byrons therapy for an hour once a week. For more details contact Miss Wong on 755 4320. The sale of Christmas trees began last Saturday and finishes on December 23.
