Celebrated our 11th anniversary last night in Duluth. Went to the Duluth Grill and had some Pie Ella. Now I dont know why it is called pie, it was nothing like pie. It was a fair-sized dish full of wild rice and salmon and halibut and tomato stuff, and various swell flavors...and if you look up the definition of yummy in the dictionary, there is a picture of this in there. Dessert for me was a chocolate confection with three different forms of the brown goodness and a dollop of ice cream for punctuation. Mickys dessert was some kind of banannananna layer cake that looked awfully good, too, but I did not want to confuse the chocolate vibe I had going on, to taste it. This is an unabashed plug for the Duluth Grill. I do not think there is a single disappointment on the whole menu. Everything is locally sourced whenever possible, and in the season much of the vegetable goods is grown in raised beds right in the parking lot. The beef is local and grass-fed, so is the buffalo and lamb. Granted, the salmon and the halibut were Alaskan...but provided by a local person who probably had a personal relationship with those fish. The young woman waiting on us was pleasant, well-trained and attentive. We finished off the evening with a moving picture, the Imitation Game...about the British effort to break the German Enigma code and in interesting subtext about the legal status of men who happen to like other men, in that era...no matter their service to humanity. Excellent movie!
