Celebrating 100 years of a Vedantic cause Ramakrishna Math celebrated a century of the publication of ‘The Vedanta Kesari’, the monthly of the Ramakrishna Order This century-old magazine, launched in the city, has kept its date with subscribers every month without a break. The Vedanta Kesari, the cultural and spiritual monthly of the Ramakrishna Order, gets despatched exactly on the 24 of each month. Now in its 101st year of publication, it is priced at Rs. 10 per 40-page issue. In its long journey, it has had 16 editors who have overseen 1,179 issues running to 54,853 pages, with 15,246 articles written by 2,351 authors. All the articles are in English, with select ones translated and published in other languages. On Tuesday, the Ramakrishna Math celebrated a century of the monthly’s service to the cause of spreading Vedanta and the ideology of Ramakrishna and Vivekananda of holistic spirituality. The Vedanta Kesari’s 101 digitised archives in DVD format were also released on the occasion. Swami Atmashraddhananda, editor, The Vedanta Kesari, said that Brahmavadin, the monthly started in 1895 in Madras, was the predecessor of The Vedanta Kesari. Swami Vivekananda conceived and founded Brahmavadin (‘the messenger of highest truth’) in September 1895, and it was discontinued in April 1914. The very next month, The Vedanta Kesari (‘lion of vedanta’) was launched. Math president and managing editor Swami Gautamananda, secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore, Swami Abhiramananda, eminent author Prema Nandakumar and IIT-Madras professor C.
