Celebrating Jesus: A King for All Time Thick nails on flesh. The pounding of the hammer. The crowd baying for blood. The unbearable pain as the large iron spike is driven in. Tearing through flesh and tendons. The blood streaming from torn flesh. The pain a girl or boy feels as brute men rape them – forcing their way into their bodies in their bid to assert their power and assuage their lust. If Jesus said that what we do to those we consider least, we do to Him, it means He personally takes on our pain. For every brutality, for every tortured prisoner, for every rape victim, Jesus identifies wth that person personally – because He knows what it is to be brutalised. Personally. Stripped of all dignity and honour and subjected to excruciating pain. Have you suffered brutality? He knows. He knows. Personally.
