Cemeteries...we visit them following funerals, we visit them and decorate headstones during special holidays like Christmas, Easter, Spring, and Fall. We drive by them and think nothing of them, really. Thats how I have always viewed them, until today. Today while driving the thought came to me to suggest to the riders if they would like to go to the cemetery I would drive them by since they may not get opportunities to when they want to go. Out of all the many riders I had today, several wanted to go by; and with the exception of one, all knew where their loved ones were buried and could see the headstones from the road. Although going by the cemetery wasnt a fun thing to do, I think it may have meant a little something to the riders, especially to the ones who never have the chance to go out there to pay their respects. One thing they ALL said was how beautiful the cemetery was with the grass mowed and the headstones decorated so beautifully...I never thought of looking at it like that, but once it was mentioned, I did take notice at how pretty our cemetery looks. As I pulled out of the cemetery each time to take the riders to,their next destination, they all thanked me for taking them...this is the lesson learned...the things we people who still drive take for granted are the little things that may aggravate us if we have to get in the car to go there, such as the post office, grocery store, gas station; but we need to enjoy and appreciate our physical ability and our freedom that we have that we CAN get out and go somewhere anytime we want to, because someday, we will be like the riders on the bus, and cant go anymore unless someone takes us. As for the cemetery??? You wont catch me dead in a place like that!
