Census ‘faked’ jobs report during 2012 election; favored Obama The all-important August 2012 unemployment data — reported in early September — was manipulated to give a “faked” jobs report, according to a recent probe and documents from the Census Bureau. The figures are thought to have given President Obama a much-needed boost in the polls. People questioned the government’s figures when the unemployment rate sharply dropped an astounding three tenths, from 8.1 percent in August to September’s 7.8 percent, according to The New York Post. Chief among the naysayers was former General Electric chairman and CEO Jack Welch. When the rate continued to decline the following month, he tweeted: Unbelievable jobs numbers..these Chicago guys will do anything..cant debate so change numbers This decline was critical to President Obama’s re-election campaign. A GOP mantra until then had been that the unemployment rate never got below 8 percent since the president’s 2009 stimulus bill had been signed into law early in his administration, despite his promises to the contrary. As it turns out, Welch was right and the Census Bureau, charged with the unemployment surveys, knew it all along, according to a Post source. The Post reported: Just two years before the presidential election, the Census Bureau had caught an employee fabricating data that went into the unemployment report, which is one of the most closely watched measures of the economy. And a knowledgeable source says the deception went beyond that one employee — that it escalated at the time President Obama was seeking reelection in 2012 and continues today. “He’s not the only one,” said the source, who asked to remain anonymous for now but is willing to talk with the Labor Department and Congress if asked. Confidential Census documents obtained by The Post revealed that Julius Buckmon was caught faking the results while he was a Census employee. When contacted by The Post, Buckmon claimed his bosses at Census told to manipulate the data. So far, there’s nothing tying the faked data to the White House. It appears to have been manipulated because of time constraints and not for political gain. Nonetheless, one can’t help but think of the phrase, “Chicago-style politics” and associate it to the Obama machine.
