Centier’s actual role in the 41-million-dollar scam It was key to Gateway Partners proposal to bleed the taxpayers of Gary out of nearly 45-million dollars altogether--between Phase I and Phase II of the scheme--to have a bank play along. The project was catching a lot of flak from critics; so they needed to add a component of credibility to the artifice. And what could offer more credibility than a bank? Vance Kenney has some relationship with this bank. It is through this relationship that he was able to convince this bank to play along with the rest of the chicanery. When Kenney was on the Gary Sanitary District board, he introduced a motion to switch all of GSD’s bank accounts to Centier. His motion failed. Very shortly after this failed attempt to help Centier, he left the GSD board. If Centier really thought this project was a good idea, why didn’t they just offer to loan Gateway the money they need to revamp the building? (please continue reading after you get done laughing) Surely Centier’s executives are smart enough to see through this charade. So why then are they playing along? Why are they involved with something that will be so detrimental to the long-term financial health of the taxpayers of Gary and the city as a whole? The answer is most likely: They are simply in it for the money. After all, they are bankers.
