Central Bllod Bank Lab Assistant Department: Schedule: Part-Time Shift: Hours: Job Grade: Spec 1 Job Details: 2-3 years of experience in healthcare Strong attention to detail Strong communication skills This is a part-time 20 hr/week position. ITxM Clinical Services is a network of integrated transfusion services which supports an extensive group of major hospitals and other healthcare facilities in the Pittsburgh region. Our integrated staff operates on-site at hospitals and off-site at central laboratory facilities. Facilitated by computerization and automated testing, our expert team rotates among all sites. CTS functions include compatibility testing, specialized serological testing, product preparation and issue, and medical support. Annual blood and component throughput for CTS includes more than 112,000 units of red blood cells and 200,000 units of other blood components. This position assists in providing blood, blood products, derivatives, and other non-serological testing services to hospital customers and supports the non serologic testing function of the transfusion service. A HS diploma or equivalent is required; Associate or Bachelors degree in Biological Science is preferred. 2-3 years of experience in healthcare, customer service position or post high school training in a medical support program. Good oral communication and customer service interaction skills are required. Strong time management organizational and multi-tasking skills required. Ability to complete basic mathematical calculations. Strong attention to detail with ability to complete tasks to precise regulatory quality standards. Must be able to prioritize work demands and anticipate patient needs. Ability to equate a medical diagnosis to transfusion needs. Strong oral communication required. Computer skills are also required.
