Central Coast Marlins have fallen one win short of a Grand Final appearance after suffering a heart breaking 10-6 loss to Blacktown Workers in game 3 of the State Baseball League Preliminary Final series. The Marlins sent Craig Anderson to the mound - just four days after throwing 8 & 2/3 innings in their game 1 win. Anderson dealt in the early innings and was well supported by solid Marlins defence. Marlins bats came alive in the top of the 5th inning, scoring 2 runs to take a 2-0 lead. It was the bottom of the 6th inning that Blacktown streaked hits together - and coupled with two Marlins errors and a pitching change, would take a 7-2 advantage. Blacktown tacked on another 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to take their lead out to 10-2. Marlins showed great character to battle back with their last 6 outs of the game. They scored 4 runs in the top of the 8th inning and it could have been more if not for an unfortunate line drive double play on a very close play. Marlins had runners aboard in the top of the 9th, but were unable to come up with the big hit as Blacktown held on for the 10-6 victory. Jason Rees stood out for the Marlins offensively collecting two hits. It was a big effort for the Marlins to reach the Preliminary Final series. They started the year with just 4 wins against 7 losses and stormed home to finish in 4th position in the regular season. Marlins will look ahead to the future - starting with Saturdays under 18 grand final, where Marlins will take on Baulkham Hills.
