Certain local politicians and their radicalized fandom keep telling me that the Alabama Education Association is a liberal, special interest group. Alright, Ill bite. They tell me all the ways that the AEA is liberal. They tell me all the ways that AEA is bad for education. What Ive yet to hear is why theyre *good* for education. What Ive yet to hear is what theyll do for Alabamas teachers and students. If theres a candidate running for office, ask them what their education stance is beyond political attacks on the teachers association. Ask them what tangible things they would do, or have done for educators, students, and schools. Lord knows, theres not one Phil Williams Elementary in Etowah County and theres never going to be one. Theres no Becky Nordgren Scholarship given out at the end of every year. And I have yet to see a, Mack Butler Computer Lab. No Etowah County candidate will be allowed to slander the chosen professional association of my friends and neighbors in the education field without having their own poor support of our public schools called out.
