Cesc Fabregas is one of six nominees for the December PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award. The Spaniard has continued the excellent form he has shown since returning to the Barclays Premier League at the start of the season, contributing goals and assists as we maintained our position at the top of the table. The month began well with victory over Spurs before defeat at Newcastle halted our unbeaten run, only for Fabregas to hit the goal trail against Sporting Lisbon and Stoke, where his early cross also set up John Terry’s opening goal. It was also from his corner that the skipper headed us in front against West Ham on Boxing Day. Also nominated are Andy Carroll, Charlie Austin, Harry Kane, Santi Cazorla and David De Gea, with fans invited to vote at fanawards.90min/. We asked Chelsea fan and 90min contributor Sam Sank to examine why Fabregas is a contender for December. Chelseas three-point lead at the summit of the Premier League table has been a result of some great team play this season but the form of Cesc Fabregas has been key in the opening months of the campaign. The former Arsenal captain made the move from Barcelona to Stamford Bridge over the summer, and anyone who had seen the cultured midfielder during his first spell in the Premier League with the Gunners will have understood why Chelsea splashed the cash for Fabregas, but even as we approach the halfway point of the season, the Spaniard is already justifying his fee. The 27-year-old has formed a formidable partnership with Nemanja Matic in the centre of Chelseas midfield and many feel that the balance of these two stars is the key to the Blues fine form this season, in which we’ve only lost one game. Fabregas leads the divisions assists charts by some way. The Spanish international also has two goals to his name in the Premier League, the most recent of which, at Stoke City, secured yet another win for Jose Mourinhos side. He is once again starting to show the form that makes him one of the most complete central midfielders in world football. Mourinho has opted to play Fabregas in a far deeper role than when he played in La Liga. This change in position has benefited Chelseas No4, with Fabregas often picking the ball up from the likes of John Terry and Gary Cahill, before moving it on with one of his killer passes. Fabregas passing style of play has rubbed off on his team-mates too, with Oscar, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa all flourishing with the knowledge that the Spaniard is creatively feeding them. It is no wonder that Chelsea remain one of the favourites to take the Premier League title come May and Fabregas, if he keeps up his current rate of form, could be a contender for the Player of the Year award.
