ChI students and alumni gathered in Seattle on November 1 and in Portland on November 2 to connect and experience ChI Community in the Northwest through day-long retreats facilitated by Rev. Scott Quinn, Director of ChIs Interfaith Community. Each day started with a reflection after which each person told his/her story. The sharing was deep and created a sense of The ChI Essence infusing all those gathered. The day continued with a discussion of the latest developments at ChI, followed after lunch by a discussion of what those gathered desire for the future. Those attending expressed a desire for more opportunities to gather face-to-face in their home community. The consensus was to offer a quarterly ChI gathering in Seattle and a quarterly ChI gathering in Portland, with people taking turns hosting and coordinating gatherings. Rev. Susan Morrisson hosted the Seattle gathering and has agreed to be ChIs contact person in Seattle. Rev. Sheldon Hurst hosted the Portland gathering and has agreed to be ChIs contact person in Portland. A ChI Northwest Yahoo group was also created in order to share resources, requests for support, and information on upcoming events in The Northwest. Some of those gathering in Seattle also plan to hold a “Sacred Marketplace” after the conclusion of the next gathering for those who wish to support each other in expanding their ministries by sharing ideas and resources. Those gathering in Portland also desire to connect with each other between quarterly gathering by attending together events around the Portland area, such as visiting different worship sites, art exhibits, concerts, dances, programs at The Friends of Jung, etc. Numerous other ideas were discussed and recorded as future possibilities. The sense of community led many to say they felt like they were right back in the ChI classroom and that they felt gratitude for connecting with those who share a similar spiritual framework and language, which they experience nowhere else.
