Updated January 20, 2015 Chadian_TroopsThe Nigerian Army has responded to reports of the invasion of Nigeria’s territories by Chadian forces in a bid to fight the insurgents in north eastern Nigeria. A presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, had mentioned the invasion of the territories by the Chadian troops while delivering a campaign speech in Enugu, promising that if elected, his administration would chase the troops out of the region and take hold of Baga. “We will fight the Chadian troops that has incurred into our land…. We will throw them off from our land..,” he said. A spokesman for the Army, Brigadier-General Olajide Laleye, told reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, that operations in Baga involved a multinational joint task-force which has been in place in the eighties. “Any operation within that general area can be conducted by troops from the three countries of the joint task force, which are Nigeria, Niger and Chad,” he explained. The Army also condemned reports in the media alleging that top officials of the military mismanage resources and finances meant for some soldiers fighting insurgents in the north-east, describing it as falsehood and an attempt to discredit the operations of the Nigerian military in the north-east. Military personnel have been tackling a terrorist group, the Boko Haram, in the north-east and governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, one of the north-east states under the siege of the terrorist group had said the military lacked needed motivation to prosecute the war against the dissident group.
