Chair of Unity Octave: January 18th to January 25th (Week of Prayer for Christian Unity) Today is celebrated the ancient feast of the Chair of St. Peter at Rome, now only celebrated in some parts of the Church. For more than a century, the Church has commemorated the eight days between today and next weeks Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul on the road to Damascus, celebrated each January 25th, with prayers for Christian unity. St. Peter exemplifies the unity, authority, and stability of the faith and of the Church. St. Paul exemplifies the missionary spirit of the Church, reaching beyond the chosen people to spread the Church of Christ throughout the world. Let us join together in daily prayers for Christian Unity during this week. You may use the prayers and intentions below: Our Father. Hail Mary. Glory Be. That all may be one as Thou, Father, in Me and I in Thee, that they may be one in Us; that the world may believe that Thou hast sent Me. V. I say to thee, that thou art Peter. R. And upon this rock I will build My Church. Let us pray: O Lord Jesus Christ, Who hast said to Thy Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give unto you; regard not my sins, but the Faith of Thy Church, and do Thou grant it peace and unity, Who livest and reignest, God, forever, unto ages of ages. Amen. Daily Intentions: January 18: For the return of the other sheep to the One Fold of our Lord Jesus Christ. January 19: For the return of the Eastern Orthodox to communion with the Apostolic See.
