Chair pose....Itll make you sweat! Boy I sure surfed Pinterest for this the pic I liked. I have to say the chick in orange on the beach exemplifies what I think chair pose is. Feet together, sitting deeply into a chair, striving to get the hips to knee level, maybe, but definitely as low as you can go. Thighs and shins should be burning a little..:) I focus on feeling every muscle in my spine, from the tailbone to the base of the skull, engaging, GENTLY, pulling the spine into its maximum extension. From there, arms up, I try and bring the biceps back by my ears and I actually lift my chin so the curve of the spine is continuous up throughout the cervical spine. . Pulling the shoulders down from the ears at that point really frees the neck making it feel long and easy. The hard part is softening the face and eyes, breathing and then staying one more breath. Try sitting in it without hoping for the count out of it! Sumit teachers: I think we should sit them in the first one for a few breaths letting them find it, then on an exhale sweeping arms back airplane wings, for a breath or two, then move them through that one more time with one round of breath, so an inhale up and an exhale back....Not a requirement, just a suggestion. Some people have neck issues and prefer the gaze forward and I say, yes whatever works for you. You are the best teacher, listen to your own internal, natural intuition...Kisses!!
