Chakwera Visits Flood and Storm Victims in Chilobwe The president of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and Leader of Opposition Rt. Hon. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera toured areas affected by floods and storms in the Southern Region district of Blantyre. After attending centenary celebrations of nationalist hero, Rev. John Chilembwe, Chakwera proceeded to tour the affected area of Chilobwe where he condoled families that lost their beloved children to the storms. A Napolo like flood that flushed out of Soche hills razed down several houses killing several people including a college student. One child is still missing. Speaking to the affected families seeking shelter at Chimwankhunda Primary School, Dr. Chakwera comforted the survivors and urged government and all stakeholders to swiftly respond to the calamity. He has since appealed to all Malawians including MCP members to donate and help the victims across the country. Meanwhile, a representative of Blantyre City Council thanked Chakwera and MCP for sparing time and resources to cheer the survivors. Chakwera donated maize and condoled the bereaved families.
