Chalk Up Another Wall Stadium TQ Win For Ryan Tidman By EARL KRAUSE (WALL TWP., NJ 6-15-13) – Taking command with ten circuits to go in the 25-lap event, “Flyin’ Ryan” Tidman of Levittown, Pa., went on to win the ATQMRA TQ-Midget feature on Saturday night at Wall Stadium Speedway. It was the third overall win of 2013 on the ATQMRA tour for Tidman and the Lenny and Donna Boyd No. 1B team; and their second of the season at Wall. Impressive Brett Conkling took the silver No. 28 into first place on lap one, passing TQ newcomer Joey Bailey. Conkling maintained his lead pace through lap five, with Matt Roselli, Tidman (from seventh), Frank Fischer and Matt Janisch (driving the Roselli team car No. 98x) dueling for position behind him. Conkling opened up his advantage to nearly a straightaway on the third- mile, high-banked paved oval by the 10th circuit. The race for second continued to be close and intense between runner-up Roselli, Tidman, Fischer and Janisch. Meanwhile 2010 tour champion Ian Cumens, driving the No. 36 of Colin Martin; and former Wall TQ winner Buddy Sload had also raced into contention. Tidman then began his surge to the front, racing to second on the 13th circuit as Fischer’s orange No. 33 passed Roselli for third. The first caution waved on the next lap, as A.J. Fuge spun off turn four. Conkling led on the restart, but Tidman challenged and made what turned out to be the winning pass on lap 15. He led into the 20th circuit, as Conkling and Fischer thrilled the crowd as they battled for second place. A lap later, the second caution was displayed when Jeff Kot’s No. 95 stopped in turn four. That set the stage for a sprint down to the checkered, as Tidman raced away to victory. Fischer outdueled Conkling for runner-up honors, with Janisch finishing fourth and Roselli fifth. The heat races were won by Conkling and Janisch. ATQMRA WALLNOTES: The ATQMRA honored long time TQ car owner, motor builder and mechanic Rudy Boetticher Sr. in a trackside ceremony prior to the start of the feature. Mr. Boetticher, the Grand Marshal for the TQ event, was presented with a plaque from the management and race teams of the ATQMRA that recognized his “50 Years of Dedication” to the organization and Eastern TQ-Midget racing. Proudly attending the ceremony honoring Rudy Sr. were his sons Rudy Jr. and Robert, who had both raced TQ-Midgets over the years as part of the family team; and daughter Karolee. The pace car for the feature was the restored, 1970s-80s era blue TQ-Midget No. 10x from the Vintage Division of the ATQMRA. The car had won over 40 features in its era, including two at Wall with Ray Evernham driving. At the wheel on Saturday was Patrick Force, son of the car’s new owner Bill Force Sr. It was Patrick’s first time in a TQ, and he was honored by the experience... TQ newcomer Joey Bailey, of Spotswood, N.J., just recently moved from the Garden State Quarter-Midget Club, which has their track on the grounds of Wall Stadium, into the ATQMRA. His dad, Russ Bailey, was an eight-time TQ-Midget winner at Wall... Joey Payne, last year’s Wall Turkey Derby TQ winner; and Alison Cumens, the 2009 ATQMRA champion, were both out of action early due to mechanical problems. Feature Finish (25 Laps): 1. Ryan Tidman, 2. Frank Fischer, 3. Brett Conkling, 4. Matt Janisch, 5. Matt Roselli, 6. Ian Cumens, 7. Buddy Sload, 8. Mike Tidaback, 9. Joey Bailey, 10. A. J. Fuge, 11. Jeff Kot, 12. J. P. Cossman, 13. Joey Payne, 14. Alison Cumens
