Chamber News Feed: Hunterdon County, NJ: (HIGH BRIDGE, NJ) A man suspected of overdosing early Monday morning was given Narcan by first-responders, and Hunterdon Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III that with saving the young mans life. The incident was discussed in a statement released by Kearns, Chief of Detective John Kuczynski and High Bridge Police Chief Bret Bartman yesterday. “At approximately 12:43 a.m., High Bridge Police officers were dispatched to a residence on Main Street for the suspected drug overdose of a 21-year-old man, the release states. Police officers administered Narcan to the victim and continued to assess his vital signs until the High Bridge Rescue Squad and Paramedics arrived at the scene. The victim was later transported to the Hunterdon Medical Center for further treatment. The Lebanon Township Police Department, Clinton Township Police Department and the Town of Clinton Police Department also assisted at the scene. Narcan is a form of Naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of a heroin or opiate overdose. In the past only hospital staff could administer Naloxone, but it became legal for police officers to administer the drug when Governor Christie signed the Overdose Prevention Act, a law aimed at protecting those who render aid to overdose victims, Kearns said Police officers are usually the first to arrive on the scene of an emergency, and in the case of an overdose, minutes can be the difference between life and death. Prosecutor Kearns added, “Thanks to the quick actions of the High Bridge Police Department, High Bridge Rescue Squad and paramedics at the scene, a life has been saved. Hopefully, this young man will use this second chance to get the help he needs and to turn his life around.” Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-321-0010 or by going to crimestoppershunterdon, or text messaging “HCTIPS” plus your tip message to 274637 (CRIMES).
