Chamber News Feed: Hunterdon County, NJ: The cost of permanent, automatic generators is being defrayed by nearly $200,000 in state grants awarded to three Lambertville entities. The City, the Municipal Utilities Authority and Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad are among a number of Hunterdon entities awarded grants ranging from $15,000, in Alexandria Township, to $250,000 through the federal Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) Energy Allocation Initiative and Lifeline/Life Safety Energy Resilience Program. The money is part of a $13 million pool for being distributed to 337 county and municipal entities or the Lifeline/Life Safety energy resilience projects statewide, according to the N.J. Office of Emergency Management. Thats in addition to the $25 million through the HMGP Energy Allocation program. The County of Hunterdon is receiving $250,000, and Readington Township $100,000, through Energy Allocation. According to state Emergency Management, the HMGP Energy program evaluated over 1340 individual requests for funding, ranging from $2,500-$65,000. It said that many jurisdictions submitted multiple projects for consideration, and that awards were made in all 21 counties in New Jersey. In neighboring Somerset County, recipients include Branchburg, $100,000 and Hillsborough $120,000, in Energy Allocation grants, and Montgomery $75,000 in Lifeline/Life Safety. In Lambertville, city clerk Cindy Ege said the grants were applied for in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The $47,404 to the city and $75,000 to the MUA, she said, will defray the cost of generators at the city library, and maybe the Justice Center, which could then serve as emergency shelters. A generator for the library is more critical, city officials have said, because it is larger and outside of the flood zone. The rescue squad will also use the $75,000 grant towards a permanent generator at its hillside location, Ege said. Grants are also being distributed to for projects at water and wastewater facilities and other critical services. The following Hunterdon communities were among those who are also receiving Lifeline Life Safety Program grants: West Amwell, $30,000; Frenchtown, $50,000; and Delaware Township, Flemington, Holland, Lebanon Township, Town of Clinton, and Kingwood, $75,000 each.
