Chamber News Feed: Hunterdon County, NJ: The next Hunterdon County hazardous waste cleanup day is scheduled for Saturday, July 13, rain or shine, at the garage in the county complex off Route 12 in Raritan Township. Waste can be dropped off 9 a.m.-1 p.m. No pre-registration is required. If you can’t make it to that one, another hazardous waste cleanup day is set for Saturday, Nov. 9. No computers or monitors will be accepted either day but there will be a special electronics cleanup day on Oct. 12 at the same location for them as well as speakers, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, fax machines and so on. There is no quantity limit Saturday on used motor oil, automotive batteries, antifreeze or fire extinguishers. Up to 10 gallons or 80 pounds of the following items will be accepted for no charge: latex and oil based paints (consolidate paints, keeping them separated by type, to make full cans), varnish and stains, herbicides, gas-oil mix, mercury, insecticides, pool chemicals, photographic chemicals, fuel oil and sludge, paint thinner, pesticides, aerosol cans, battery acid, asbestos pipe wrap (dampen and double-wrap in plastic), gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, drain cleaner and fluorescent tubes (wrap in newspaper or put in original packaging) Amounts in excess of 10 gallons or 80 pounds will incur a cost for disposal as follows: $1 per gallon in excess of 10 gallons or $2 per pound in excess of 80 pounds The following will not be accepted: propane or any compressed gas tanks, solid waste, household garbage, radioactive materials, explosives, pentachlorophenol, PCBs, Silvex or empty containers. Empty, dry containers with the lids off can be disposed of with regular garbage or recycled with tin and bi-metal at a municipal program or at the county trash transfer station in Clinton Township.
