Chamberli Ynfante Truett just posted this 6 mins ·ago. . I have had several people ask me what exactly Backpack Ministry is and how they can help. So here is some information for you. The program provides food for children with limited access to food on the weekend throughout the school term. Food is placed in the childs backpack on Friday to take home, they will bring the designated backpack back to school the following Monday. Our mission is to work with the school counselors and teachers to identify children “at risk” for hunger and then we supply them with nutritious, self-serve food that will sustain them when school meals are not available. The foods provided are ready to eat or are easily prepared. There are several kids in Groesbeck ISD that have little to eat over the weekend. The food they will receive will be meals for Saturday and Sunday. There are 22 kids as of now that are very excited about getting food. We have recently been given insulated bags for cold stuff incase we ever get lunchables or cold stuff to take home. There are several way that you can help. 1. Spread the word 2. help raise food for the backpacks (sunday school class, 4-H, Church, or any other organization) 3. If you wish to donate money you can send it to school in care of Chamberli Truett, Shelli McNutt or Brandi Urban. You can also send grocery gift cards. 4. You can purchase any of these foods. If you would like to donate by sending food. Drinks- fruit juice, capri sun Breakfast foods- packets of oatmeal, small box of cereal, cereal bars, muffins, doughnuts, honey buns, and pop tarts. Meal type foods- any chef boyardee type soups, chicken noodle soup ect., spaghetti os with or with-out meat, rice cups, pasta cups, mac & cheese bowls, ramen noodles. Any thing that is filling that can be kept in a backpack. We have been given insulated bags if you wish to send cold stuff like lunchables. Snack foods- little debbie snack stuff, individual bags of cookies, crackers, or chips. pudding cups, applesauce, fruit cups, fruit snacks, raisins, cheese or peanut butter crackers, popcorn, fruit. anything that is wrapped individually.
