Chandrapur : Reportedly some farmers had gone to fields near Wainganga River alongside the Chamorshi Markanda road in Chamorshi taluka of the district in the morning hours. They spotted a tigress lying dead near the river bank, informed, deputy conservator, Allapalli Forest Division, Hemant Kumar Meena. The farmers soon informed the forest officials about it, who rushed to the spot and brought the body to Range Forest office, Chamorshi. The carcass of tigress discovered in the locality also attracted a huge crowd of spectators. In the preliminary investigations the officials found that the dead tigress was aged between 5 to 6 years while her length measured from head to tail was about 2.5 meter. Black stains spotted inside the mouth of the tigress substantiate suspicion about the tigress getting electrocuted. Forest officials will check with MSEDCL for power tripping on either side of the river to verify the possibility, sources said. On Thursday, forest department will launch intense search operations to trace the pugmarks of the tigress to identify its trail. They would also check the strip-pattern of the deceased tigress with their camera-trap data to confirm its identity. The body was removed after inquest formalities to Chamorshi range office. A team of three veterinary doctors carried out the post mortem in presence of PCCFs representative Bandu Dhotre and other officers. The tigress was cremated on the same premises after autopsy. Doctors have failed to pinpoint the exact cause which led to instant death of the young tigress. No injury marks were found on the body. Post mortem findings suggest brain haemorrhage, but the exact reason behind it can be ascertained after receipt of the viscera report, Tirpude said. However, he agreed that the tigress was young and healthy and could not have died due to exhaustion or some ailment.
