Chandrasen Guria, Anupam Guria, Jolly Bage, Godlin and WTM friends!! What is Culture? Without going into academics, culture is a sum total of all Expressions of what your external behaviour shows. It is the coming out of what your internal psyche(= thinking pattern) is. Its the manifestation of how you react to the different life situations you come across.If Rs one lakh is given an adivasi and to a dikku each what will they do to it? You can well imagine about it? Anyway,like the rainbow, its the colours of Life that make the Culture.And the colours of the Adivasis are different from those of the dikkus’. Some scholars like RD Munda or V Xaxa have specialisation in tribal life & culture. They have been able to establish that it is Cultural Identity of the tribals which is distinct as well as which makes them outstand among different cultural groups of India. Now, the Constitution of India through Part IX, article 243(m) and Part IXA- 243(zc) after 73rd and 74th amendments acknowledges the unique Identity of tribals and provided them a separarte form of Self Governance called the PPESA-1996. But it is sad to know even after 17 years after the inactment of PPESA-1996 we have not been able to get it implemented in any scheduled states. The reason is our division, we are made to fight on non issues in order to divert our energies from the priorities of our base of livelihood; jal, jameen aur jungle. By the time we realise our mistake, everything may have been lost. And the culture which we take for granted and of which we feel proud will lose all colours if it has no jameen=territory and land to base upon. So friends, Beware of the dikkus!! They are taking away your jameen;they are also taking away your culture.
