Change is the only constant in this universe. Our Sun is the main - TopicsExpress

Change is the only constant in this universe. Our Sun is the main source of energy for the all Life in our earth. But, What will happen if sun dies? What is the life span for the sun? Whether earth will survive without sun? Interesting fact is that Stars are also having life cycle like Humans. Our sun is in fact a G Type Main Sequence Yellow Dwarf Star weighing just 1.9×10^30 kilograms, approximately 330,000 times the mass of Earth ( Which is very small compared to Universe standard). These kind of stars normally live only for 10 Billion Years. Current age of our sun is almost 5 Billion Years. It means that our sun will survive only for the Next 5 Billion Years. What will Happen after that? Stars are getting energy from the Nuclear Fusion ( Mainly converting Hydrogen into Helium) inorder to escape from the Gravitational Collapse ( link given below). Once Hydrogen get exhausted (after 10 Billion Years), these stars explode into outer space ( upto the earth distance) which is being called as Red Giant due to internal pressure created from the conversion of Helium into other Heavy elements. It can sustain up to the creation of Iron. But problem with Iron is that it wont create much energy to sustain the further Nuclear Fusion. Result is the Gravitational Collapse. In this stage, following three results are possible 1. Stars which is weighing Less than 1.4 Solar Mass ( Chandrasekhar Limit) will become white dwarf where electron degeneracy pressure will stop further gravitational collapse. 2. Stars weighing more than 1.4 Solar Mass but less than 15 Solar mass may explode into Super Nova and eventually will transform into Neturon Stars where neutron degeneracy pressure will arrest further gravitational collapse. 3. Stars having mass more than 15 Solar Mass will become Black Hole in which even light also cant escape. Our current Laws of Physics are not capable to explain what is happening inside the Black Hole. So What will happen to the earth after 5 Billion years? There are difference of opinions among scientists for this question. But, one of the following may happen. Scenario 1: Sun will become red giant after 3 billion years by engulfing mercury, venus and our Earth. Scenario 2. Earth will survive the red giant space ( sun May not engulf earth) but will become hostile for any life to survive. Scenario 3: Earth will escape from suns Gravity and may be thrown away into outer space. https://youtube/watch?v=aDMx4PFxU84#t=20
