Change of pace, lets get back to some holy Trappist brews from Belgium. Here is ORVAL. This was actually my sisters pick. Maybe it is in our DNA, but she picks really good beers, as well as sake and wine. Residing in Europe doesnt slow her down one bit. So, lets see how this is, shall we? Pour is gorgeous, with an amber caramel brew with tons of heavenly foam. It is a pretty beer. On the nose, some strong apple cider, pears, Christmas spices, hint of mostarda, some handsoap,.... but not in some weird way. Well, I used to cuss a lot as a kid, and had fair share of soaps in my mouth for punishment. Dial is actually tasty. Just saying. Taste... fresh yeasty dough, green grapes, apple cider, citrus, nutmeg, longan, honey-mustard. Almost dribks like wine. Has a bitter tinge at the end. Not hop-bitter, but more like a extra brut champagne.
