AMC Entertainment: Re-show Robin Williams movies in theaters to support important causes Jessica Lauren East Windsor, New Jersey Sign Jessicas Petition Robin Williams was truly an irreplaceable comedic legend. In the last couple weeks, I’ve been wondering… given all he gave to us, how can we find a way to give back to him? I believe that one way for us to do so is to honor his life by raising awareness and funds for the illnesses that affected his life. Shortly after Robin’s death, Netflix’s most watched movies became all of his classics. Given that demand, I want Regal Entertainment Group, AMC Entertainment Group and Cinemark USA to create a “Robin Williams Day.” On this day, a handful of Robin’s movies will be played in their theaters, and a percentage of the revenues from those showings will be donated to Parkinsons, Depression and Suicide Prevention awareness, research and advocacy organizations. Many of us saw these movies for the first time in the theater, so I imagine that a lot of people would love to go back to relive those special moments. Think about Aladdin and the Genie, who Robin brought to life with his incredible voice and talent. Remember Hook and Jumanji? And how can you forget Good Will Hunting or Dead Poets Society or his hysterical role in Birdcage? The list goes on and on. It is so sad to know that Robin was suffering so much behind his glowing smile. It makes me wonder how many other people are going through this same exact battle. How many people are also putting on a persona just to get through the day? How many other people are smiling and laughing while dying inside? We all have a story and a journey, and we can never know what someone is actually going through. While we are all watching his films in his memory, we can raise money and awareness for those fighting these terrible diseases and maybe save at least one person from feeling that they cant win their internal battle. We were lucky to benefit from Robin’s numerous great performances, and now we can try to help others fight the same diseases that cost him his life.
