Changes to be made. We attended the Meet and Greet the Amarillo Panhandle Humane Society hosted on Saturday morning for all the Rescue Groups( 501c) Scott McDonald was present also spoke to the group. It was very informative and many changes are in store for the future of Amarillo Animal Management And Welfare. Below is a list of the highlights of the meeting. I feel most the changes are going to be positive and will require all of us to pull together and work together with one goal in mind....To have every pet entering the shelter to walk out the front door....... 1. No more pet extensions will be allowed. 2. All Pets entering the shelter will do so through the shelter side, no more owner surrenders will be allowed through HS. 3. All rescue pulls must be done in writing forms were provided to us by Humane Society. they can be faxed to HS, emailed or presented in person, an acknowledgement will be provided to rescue by HS. 4. Cheyanne with HS will be in charge of all pets pulled her hours will be Monday-Friday 2pm to 7 pm. I will find out about Saturday pulls or if we need to pull before 2 pm.( I didnt ask this question) 5.Do not wait until day 5 to pull a pet. you can tag a pet for pulling on day one. 6. If there is an opportunity to adopt a tagged pet...Then this will be done. HS will not turn down a chance to get a pet into a home just because it is tagged.... 7. Any tagged pet that is found to be ill...HS will notify rescue organization and give the organization 24 hours to either pick up sick pet and seek treatment or release pet back to shelter for them to determine the fate of the sick pet. 8. Building will be renamed and HS will not have a separate building. I do not know many details on this now but will advise more about this once I know all the details.
