Changi Airports T1 open-air car park to close by year-end. SINGAPORE: The open-air car park in front of Changi Airports Terminal 1 will be closed permanently by the end of this year. Changi Airport Group (CAG) announced this on Friday (Sep 26) and said this is to make way for the expansion of Terminal 1 and the development of Project Jewel - a new retail complex cum leisure attraction at Changi Airport which is due to be completed by 2019. With the closure of the open-air car park, the nearest parking facility for Terminal 1 users is at Car Park 2B at Terminal 2. This car park will be renamed T1 Car Park when the relocation takes effect. CAG said based on Changi Airports car park utilisation rates, the number of parking spaces at Car Park 2B is expected to be adequate to cater to both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 users. With the relocation of the Terminal 1 car park to Terminal 2, measures will be put in place to facilitate the movement of airport users between the two terminals. CAG will introduce a free shuttle bus service to connect Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, to supplement the existing Skytrain service linking the two terminals. $20 CAP ON DAILY PARKING CHARGES TO BE SCRAPPED CAG said as Changi Airport handles increasing passenger traffic, there is a need to manage demand for extended parking at the airport. So it will do away with the existing S$20 cap on the daily parking charge at the main terminal car parks from Oct 14. Based on the per-minute parking rate of 4 cents, users will have to pay S$57.60 for 24 hours of parking. Visitors who wish to park for an extended period can consider the South Car Park which will be open on Oct 14. The South Car Park will offer a lower parking rate of 3.5 cents per minute. A full days parking there would cost S$50.40. - CNA/dl Watch channel 5 news report at: https://youtube/watch?v=qmXxSX4ml88
