Changing Support, Changing Lives is a partnership of 5 organisations who have come together to support people through the transformation to self-directed support. On the 20th of March we will be holding a conference in the Park Hotel, Kilmarnock. This conference is open to everyone, but is particularly aimed towards people who use support services, their family members and carers. The aim of the event is to allow people to find out more about self-directed support and how it will affect them. The event is hosted by ENABLE Scotland, but will include input from: •North Ayrshire Council •East Ayrshire Council •South Ayrshire Council These speakers will be part of a workshop that will help people understand how SDS will work in their area. There will also be special guest speakers: •Wendy Perez (see-me-as-me.co.uk) Wendy is a person with a learning disability who was one of the first people in the UK to have a Direct Payment. She has since gone on to deliver training to organisations and to write for various books and journals. •Alexander Warren (ajpdreams.co.uk) Alexander is a young man with a disability who has changed his life by dreaming! He feels strongly about encouraging people to follow their dreams, no matter how big or small. He has worked with Edinburgh Development Group and has delivered Big Plans and training sessions with organisations across Scotland. We will also have a musical performance from the acclaimed Centrestage Music Theatre company, as well as a marketplace of local organisations who provide community activities and support. This even is completely free to attend. A buffet will be provided and travel expenses of up to £10 per person will be available on the night. If you would like to attend, please contact Pauline Lunn on 01698 737000, book online at changingsupport.org.uk/events or email [email protected] David Campbell Personalisation Development Worker
