Changing beliefs using philosophy. We use the term - TopicsExpress

Changing beliefs using philosophy. We use the term “belief” to refer to the attitude we have, whenever we take something to be the case or regard something we believe to be true. To believe something, in this sense, neednt involve actively reflecting on it, until it is that we either challenge ourselves or are challenged by some other outside influence over the belief in question. Belief is the psychological state in which an individual holds a conjecture or premise to be true. It also can be coined as (An opinion or theory without sufficient evidence for proof). Only due to the very nature that others don’t share the same opinion, that isn’t to state neither side is right nor wrong. Many of the things we believe, in the relevant sense, are quite mundane, that we have heads, that its the 21st century, there is a coffee mug is on the table and the washing up requires doing. Forming beliefs is one of the most basic and important features of the mind, and the concept of belief plays a crucial role in both the philosophy of mind and epistemology. Epistemology is quite an important tool because it investigates the origin, nature, methods, and limits of our human knowledge. For example, in the event of a disaster whether it is natural or man-made, there always tends to be indifferent reports that follow in conjunction with what the witnesses statements say. Some may for instance, believe it was an earth quake that brought the buildings down while others might announce it was a terrorist attack and so on. I understand its not the events that disturb us! Its the defensive beliefs that are being cast that are upsetting us as people. Afflictions do not discriminate but Shoulds and Musts do. (Things shouldn’t and must not be the way that they appear to be etc). They place unrealistic demands on you yourself. Human thinking and emotion are not two different processes—our thinking, emoting, and acting all interact together. REBT is based on the concept that emotions and behaviours result from cognitive processes. REBT seeks to help people understand that it is not past or present events that “cause” emotional disturbances. Therefore it is the individual’s belief system about the event, self, others and the world that causes us the disturbances that challenge our beliefs… Therapy is a key component if we desire the challenge of adjusting the core beliefs that affect the way that we think and act. Believing that we can change our behaviours is also just as important. If you don’t fully believe that we can adjust our thinking and philosophical views it therefore becomes invalid. Doubt then impedes into our beliefs and places them in a harbour until it is that we adjust our philosophy accordingly to maintain the sails that are required to CAST ASHORE. If you are to move forward in recovery you have to let go of and say good bye to the past behaviours that held you in harbour via way of altering your core beliefs and philosophical views and maintaining the ones that allow the trade winds to blow.
