Chapter 224 –July Meeting Notes and Ride Report – 7/20/2013 The Chapter Meeting began at 9:00 at Motoworld. Information that was shared and exchanged at this meeting included: Kathy reminded chapter members about the activities planned by other SoCal chapters, including Debbie’s Ride in September, and Star Days in Hershey, PA. Plans for the September overnighter to the Big Bear Oktoberfest on the weekend of September 27th are moving along. Several members have made room reservations at the Motel 6 already. We will be leaving on Friday morning (27th) from a meeting location in the North County, maybe a group breakfast at the Wagon Wheel in Escondido as was done for the StarBQ will work. More details will be provided by Kathy to all members by email. Several members participated in the off weekend ride with Chapter 230 to revisit the Pine Hills Café on Mt. Laguna. We met up with Chapter 230 at the Chevron in Ramona and departed from there in several groups. There was a mechanical breakdown just past Julian that didn’t allow several riders to continue to the destination. Sadly, a Star had to be towed from the scene, not a sight we’re used to seeing. After lunch, the main group continued on their planned route to Alpine, and the return to Orange County. Local Chapter 224 participants broke away to return home. This was the day of the Chariot fire in the Mt. Laguna area, and my ride back up Hwy 79 brought me face to face with it. Sunrise Hwy which we travelled on a couple hours ago was now closed as the fire was approaching. The July ride took the group to Leucadia Pizza and Italian Restaurant in Encinitas. We had a smaller group of 6 bikes, so we took a leisurely ride up Wildcat Canyon Rd to Ramona, connecting with Highland Valley Rd. to Lake Hodges. A brief stop was made at the Shell station west of North County Fair. From there the group continued through the Elfin Forest area to San Elijo. We then followed Rancho Santa Fe Rd. all the way to Coast Hwy, arriving at the destination shortly after Noon. The 6 of us enjoyed repeating portions of garlic cheese breadsticks and a varied lunch menu. The weather was great as temperatures were mild with a Marine layer present most of the time. The August ride destination is Palomar Mtn. with a lunch stop at the BBQ restaurant at Lake Henshaw. All 2013 destinations can be found on the Chapter forum chapter224.davesdigitaldevices/index.php/component/kunena/upcoming-events/115-chapter-224-2013-ride-destinations Standard Reminder: You are responsible for maintaining your Star T&R membership and dues. Please be sure you’re membership is current, and correct your expiration date on the Chapter attendance sheet if it is required. Submitted by: John Neidert Chapter 224 Secretary
