Chapter 3 – Religion and Race - in historical context Joseph Arthur Comte de Gobineau 1816-1882, considered by many as the father of modern racism staunchly believed in white supremacy and felt the great threat of involvement with other countries was miscegenation. He believed that race created culture, argued that distinctions between the three races; black, white, and yellow were natural barriers; race mixing breaks those barriers and leads to chaos. He classified the Middle East, Central Asia, the Indian Subcontinent and North Africa racially mixed and questioned whether black and yellow races are of the same human family as whites, or shared any common ancestry. He concluded that the Bible speaks of Adam as the progenitor of the white race, while doubting that colored races were ever descendants of Adam. He wrote that development of civilizations among other races, in other periods, was different than whites and he believed that other races had superior qualities in the past. He theorized that whites represented the best of what remains of ancient civilization and held the most superior attributes making them the most capable for continued survival. He acknowledged that civilization of Egypt lasted 3,000 years based on agriculture, but the demise was caused a political philosophy that allowed racial mixing with those Egypt conquered. He never noticed that the average life expectancy of European Cultures is 200 years. Many blacks deny ancestral roots and aid in the expansion of insensitivity against Africans at home and in the Diaspora and in the 60s Europe, I was amazed that black soldiers treated British Females as we were treated in the U.S. while referring to the United States as “The World.” Common response from the British was: “We know how they treat you over there, so don’t come here with your high and mighty attitude!” In England that I learned about “Stockholm Syndrome where the oppressed emulates the oppressor and as a student of developmental psychology at San Francisco State I realized that Stockholm Syndrome and cognitive dissonance prevail among blacks, who accept the philosophy of Southern Protestant Christians, or were educated post 1970.
