Chapter 6 After ten days summer vacations were over.I was in 9th grade now.Curiosity of being in a new school, meeting new friends, new teachers was so evident on our faces when we reached our class on day one. In the previous school I had a very good impression on teachers. They always treated me like their own child. In new school it was time to impress new teachers now. From my previous school Rajiv and Sanjay also joined me in this school. As we entered our classroom I was surprised to find Simmi smiling and giggling in the front row.My right hand reflexly touched my healing forehead wound.I noticed an unsaid apology in her eyes.Since that fateful day on cricket field it was my first meeting with her. Dont know why seeing Simmi in the same class was a pleasant surprise. But I was a little apprehensive in view of my all those bruises and abraisons and stitches that I got whenever I had met her.Be careful Raj a voice came from inside me. First class was that of English.I had been a hindi medium student but despite that, thanks to my father my english was not bad.My father ensured that I complete my English syllabus of coming class in the summer vacations itself. So I always had an edge over other students at least in english. The english teacher after introduction asked about what did we do in vacations.I raised my hand.He couldnt stop his smile when i told him that I had already completed english syllabus. He asked me to come forward while he sat on his chair.Tapping table by his fingers he saidTell us what have you read during vacations I knew it was a huge opportunity for me to make a good impression.I said Friends please open your course reader book, chapter one.I can recite the whole chapter without looking at book Everybody was surprised by this claim of mine because it was not a poem.Rather it was a long story from history. I started,Sultan Gayysuddin was a famous pathan king. One day while he was hunting one of his arrows killed a little boy.The boy was the only son of a poor widow.Crying and wailing the women reported the matter to the magistrate who was known as Qazi. The Qazi was in fix.If he summons the Sultan to his court he may lose his head.If he doesnt summon the Sultan to his court he would be committing a sin before God..........blah,blah, blah.....for the next 10 minutes i was speaking nonstop, breathless, and the whole class was listening me with a pin drop silenceand curiosity. And when i finished the story there was a thundorous applaud waiting for me. I noticed Simmi clapping for me in the front row.Dont know why I figoured her out . In the recess Simmi came to my seat and saidYou are a rattu tota I could not understand it was a complement or sarcasm but I simply liked it and took it as complement only. There were around 15 girls and 25 boys in our class but during recess Simmi preferd my company over girls.May be because I was the only person whom she knew.Simmi was a welcome addition to the small group of me,Sanjay and Rajiv.Rest of the time we discussed about our previous schools, friends, hobbies, families etc..Simmis father had also joined as chemistry teacher in our school and like me she was the only child of her parents. At home I had a new study partner now....Simmi. Continued.......
