Chapter Twelve “Round The Bend” While they all continued on determinedly in a north-southerly direction, Soddem struck up some friendly banter with TP: ‘Heard on the news the other day that a group of cavers discovered some ancient cave art that’s about 2 million years old – not too far from here, actually. The central painting bore an uncanny likeness to you – A humanoid with cat-like features and an eye missing. Next to it, in barely legible scrawl, was written the word “Bell-end”,’ said Soddem, casually. ‘Really? Now that IS interesting.’ TP replied, stroking his chin thoughtfully. ‘I know…let’s play a little game, my friend. Close your crocodile eyes a minute, if you will...now, come with me back in time through the power of our imaginations…follow your “Y” chromosome back, through your father, then grandfather and so on, while I do the same…only spend a second at each generation,’ Soddem played the game and was doing as instructed. ‘Keep going back, back, back, right through to when you first evolved from a lowly lizard. Then back, back, back, past humanity’s momentary hour at the top of the tree. Right..here we are..the moment when my timeline has taken me back through evolution to when I’m a wild cat and you a monitor lizard. Now I’ve spotted you lying in the grass, absorbing the Sun’s rays so as to warm up enough to move your primitive body more quickly than a slug…you’ve spotted me, coming towards you…there’s nothing you can do…you don’t have enough energy to run yet…you’re trying to run, you’re trying to run, you’re trying to run..GOTCHA!!’ Soddem yelped and jumped in the air when TP clamped his hands round his throat. ‘Nice day,’ offered TP. ‘Yes,’ replied Soddem.
