Chapter V The principle of action having been brought out in Chapter III, and knowledge of renunciation in Ch. IV, now Ch. V expounds the compatibility of these two. The marvel is that it does so from the standpoint of renunciation, which is abstract, rather than from that of action, which is concrete. [...] This is what makes the Bhagavad-Gita the Scripture of Divine Union. With ease it proclaims both the Yoga of action and the Yoga of renunciation of action. This is the perfection of the discourse from the lips of the Yogishwara, Krishna, the Lord of the Yogis of all time. The most extreme contradictions are harmonized and unified in this chapter. It presents the state of eternal freedom in divine consciousness on the level of action based on renunciation. Moreover, it establishes the necessity of gaining divine consciousness for the sake of successful activity in daily life, and at the same time emphazises the need for activity to gaindivine consciousness. [...] Inexhaustible wisdom is contained in the twenty-nine verses of this chapter. It stands as a beacon not only for those who are miserable and confused, but also for seekers, and even for those who are well-advanced on the path. --Maharishi, Introduction to the 5th chapter of Bhagavad-Gita
