Chapter a Day Bible Reading, Read, Reflect, Respond, Luke 3: And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight. Every valley shall be filled And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough ways smooth; And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’ ” (Luke 3:3-6 NKJV) On this Veterans Day we celebrate those who have, are, or will go out ahead of us and prepare the way of the Lords purposes and plan for this world. As it has been said, All veterans gave some. Some gave all. John the Baptist sure gave it all. From birth, even before birth, he was consecrated to God and his life became a bridge to bring people to Jesus and the forgiveness of sins and the living of a new life as a disciple of Jesus. He gave his life being a bridge, a fore-runner to the Messiah, Jesus Christ. As we acknowledge those who have, are, and will go before us, it is helpful to stop and ask if I am being a bridge, someone helping people come to Jesus, or a barrier, preventing or stopping people from coming to God and quenching the purposes of God in the world? In how I live, my words and deeds, am I a bridge or a barrier? Thank God for our Veterans who have been a bridge to liberty and freedoms that are enjoyed around the world. Now let all those who name the name of Jesus be a bridge to bring people to Jesus, and not a barrier. There is no greater purpose or call in life.
