Character in the Name: יהוהdescended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of יהוה יהוה passed by before him, and proclaimed, יהוה יהוה, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness and truth, keeping lovingkindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and disobedience and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the childrens children, on the third and on the fourth generation. (Exodus 34:5-7) This is an amazing verse in the Bible, because God revealed to us His character. He says his name יהוה, then he describes His character. When we speak about יהוה, this is the character of the one we are referring to. If we are describing Him differently, then we might be slandering His name (slandering his character).
