Characteristic check Galatians 5:22 (ERV) But the fruit that the Spirit produces in a person’s life is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness. Meditation Kathleen Kroll Driscoll once wrote about how a woman can figure out what kind of person she’s about to date. “A theater is an interesting place to analyze someone new in your life,” she said. “Does he have a phobia about sitting on the aisle? When everyone else is sniffing and crying, is he busy unwrapping licorice and covering up emotions? Is he reluctant to ask people to move over one seat so the two of you can sit together? Everything you want to know about your potential mate can be discovered during a movie.” Driscoll’s analysis may seem overly simplistic, but it does communicate a basic truth: who we really are cannot be hidden. Plus, it’s the little things—the “fruits” of your life—that often reveal the most. Are the characteristics listed in today’s verse evident in your attitude and actions? Or do others see something else? Ask the Lord to speak to you, and to work in your heart to ensure your fruits start and end with faithfulness to Him. Check your characteristics and you’ll see your true character. Prayer Lord, I praise You for Galatians 5 and the clear list it provides of the fruits that should be evident in my life. Change me to reflect more of You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
