Chargers re-sign Ajirotutu The San Diego Chargers signed wide receiver and 2013 leading special teams tackler Seyi Ajirotutu to a one-year contract, the team announced today. Ajirotutu led the Chargers in special teams tackles last season and made one of the team’s biggest offensive plays of the season, hauling in a game-winning 26-yard touchdown pass with 24 seconds left in the game to cap off a 41-38 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Nov. 24. After an All-Western Athletic Conference career at Fresno State, where he was a teammate and close friend of Chargers running back Ryan Mathews, Ajirotutu signed with the Chargers in 2010 as an undrafted free agent. He spent the 2010 season with the Bolts, signed with Carolina in 2011 and then returned to the Chargers in 2012 and again in 2013. He played in 14 games for the Bolts last season and has played in 41 for his career, catching 20 passes for 375 yards and three touchdowns. With Ajirotutu returning to the fold, the Chargers now have their top seven special teams tacklers from 2013 under contract for 2014. Ajirotutu now becomes the Chargers’ sixth unrestricted free agent to re-join the team, joining inside linebacker and defensive captain Donald Butler, safety and special teams captain Darrell Stuckey, guard Chad Rinehart, linebacker Reggie Walker and cornerback Richard Marshall. Butler, Stuckey and Rinehart re-signed their deals before the free agency period started. The Chargers have also signed five unrestricted free agents who previously played for other teams. They include inside linebacker Kavell Conner (Indianapolis), running back Donald Brown (Indianapolis), tight end David Johnson (Pittsburgh), quarterback Kellen Clemens (St. Louis) and cornerback Brandon Ghee (Cincinnati).
