Charitie Ropati (Yupik/Samoan/Mexican from Kongiganak) was selected to attend the Student Voices Session with Native Youth on the School Environment Listening Tour with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan yesterday in Washington, DC - here are more photos of her adventures! Charitie had an important opportunity yesterday to share her experiences and perspective on issues that are important to the educational success of ALL of our Native youth, including how bullying, student discipline, and offensive imagery and symbolism has affected the learning environment in our schools, and offer her ideas on way that schools, communities and the government might provide support and help. Charities biggest dream is to become the first female Alaska Native President of the United States of American - isnt that awesome?! She is well on her way, already serving as the President of the National Junior Honor Society. Way to go, Charitie! Thank you for sharing photos of your time in DC! This collaboration is made possible through partnership with the White House Initiative on American Indian and Alaska Native Education and the US Attorney Generals Initiative on Ending Violence among Native Youth.
